Elves vs. Men A study of LOTR, metro-style

So i was watching Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers since I got home for break and I noticed something. All the elves are so very pretty. Beautifully groomed, well dressed, straightened hair. I bet you they even use moisturizer, exfoliant and sunscreen for their baby soft skin. Take Legolas, for example. You wouldn't know that he's really really really old. In fact, he looks like he's in his late 20's. (There's something in that elven water, i tell you) I noticed, all of the elves are hairless. Maybe there's something about beards that takes away from the womanly beauty that these elves strive for, even in battle. Something about them just screams metro.

The men, on the other-hand, are grunting, football-watching, lame cool-guy handshake doing pseudo-neanderthals that seem to attract the affections of both women and elven females. Some examples: Aragorn (Arwen and Eowyn), Faramir (good looking?), Eomer (he has good teeth which only appear when he gives his war cry. I know, it's a sad sad world). So why are these men so objectified by such women? What is it about that unshaven, uncut, ungroomed look that these women have grown to love? It's like outback jack vs. justin timberlake. Biologically, women are attracted to the unshaven, unshowered breed (if their BO doesn't repel too much) because of the pheomones. Who knows. I suppose everyone has their opinions.

At any rate. I'm ready for #3. Four hours and ten minutes of WHOOOO!!!!

Sunday 19 December 2004

i'm home now. with not that many plans. mainly sleep.
on the drive home today we saw a lambrugini (however you spell it) According to Gloria, it looked like a smushed m&m. We both thought it was a normal car flattened. the guy was this old guy. midlife, maybe? i dunno.
At any rate, i'm home now. anyone want to play? give me a ring.

Just Waiting

Waiting for a test
waiting for that special someone to call after a 1st date
waiting as the jury goes out to deliberate on the verdict
waiting in that darn line and it's raining, but you really need to get your class pass
waiting to go into the ER to see the doctor
waiting to die
waiting to live
waiting for Christ's second coming
waiting for grades to come out
waiting to hear back from that particular school that you really really wanna go
waiting for someone to give you an answer

waiting waiting waiting....

what are you waiting for?

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, early exposure to potentially pathogenic organisms in life causes an individual to have a more robust immune system and less allergies. This is due to the activation of certain T-helper cells and the release of cytokines which activate macrophages and other innate immune cells. Shelter from these exposures could be detrimental to the child's health when they become adults. Because of the lack of exposure to potential pathogens and allergens as well, children who live in a sterile or supposedly sterile environment will be more susceptible to autoimmune diseases, allergies, hypersensitivities and be more sickly in general.

What does this all mean?
I'm taking my kids to Yosemite every year and having them play in the water and the meadows. AND, to the park/beach weekly. None of this stay at home and be clean all day. Besides, i like going outside.

People Falling Asleep in Your Car
Blessing or Curse?

Curse: If you fall asleep, too. we have problems.
It might not be the fact that you're a good driver, but they're just so dang tired.
No one to talk to.
Maybe they have narcolepsy.
You get nervous 'cause what if you wake them up?

Blessing: They're relaxed enough to sleep while you're driving. (you drive well)
That would make you relaxed, too, kinda. maybe, maybe not.

Example: When i was learning how to drive. My mom and dad at separate times, both sat in the passenger seat. When i FIRST started driving, both of them would hold on to that handlebar on the door or above the door for dear life. My goodness, i'm only driving in the parking lot. How many people have died of a car crash in the parking lot? Though, as i progressed, my dad would start to fall asleep. granted he wouldn't be teaching me anything, but he's relaxed enough to fall asleep. which means i'm doing a pretty good job driving. but then again, my dad's the kind of person who can sleep anywhere. The biggest test would be my sister. She's a light sleeper and if she falls asleep, you're a really smooth driver. She hasn't fallen asleep while i've been driving.

Praise night was tonight.
The good, the bad and the ugly. I'll start with the ugly first.
THE UGLY
I was SUPER stressed before. I don't think i completely realized that this was for the worship and glorification of God until I heard everyone start singing.
The guitar...out of tune before the thing started so I borrowed Brandon Young's (THANKS BRANDON!)

THE BAD
I messed up A LOT on the djembae in the 2nd set.
Chose too many new songs in the 2nd set.

THE GOOD
I was able to worship in the first set. I think i just let it all go...i'm playing for God not the people sitting in the pews.
ALL THE ALUMNI!!! You guys are super. I was so happy when all of y'alls came out. :) I hope you had a good time of worship.

So feedback? Is there something to improve for the next time? (practice more for the next time) Were you able to worship?

Reading Material

Not related to the reading material above:
So in lab the other day, we tested antimicrobial agents to see which was the most effective in killing germs. Here are some results
PURELL: popular hand sanitizer, NOT EFFECTIVE against E. coli. (sorry guys, its only alcohol that you're lathering on your hands)
BATH AND BODY WORKS ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP: teenybopper hand soap, HIGHLY EFFECTIVE against E. coli. (this stuff has triclosan, very good for you, bad for the little guys)
SCOPE: popular mouthwash, NOT EFFECTIVE against E. coli. (i'd worry if you have E.coli in your mouth. you should worry, too.)

I don't remember which other ones we tested, but these stood out the most. Happy shopping!

Saturday 23 October 2004

I had a marvelous dream last night. I dreamt that I had the best nectarine in the world. It was crunchy, but not hard. The color was equally red, yet gold. It almost glowed. None of the meat stuck to the pit which is ideal so I could maximize on the nectarine volume intook. The fructose and water level was perfect. It was sweet yet tart but not too tart. There's that distinct nectarine taste that was oh so wonderful. And the nectarine was juicy but not so juicy as to drip all over my shirt (which always happens with SUPER ripe nectarines).

Yeah, that was a great nectarine. I hope God will bless me in consciousness to partake of such a good nectarine.

Tuesday 19 October 2004

so i put myself on the degree list today.
it's a surreal feeling.
It seems like not very long ago that I came to Berkeley as a freshman living at clark kerr who sprained her ankle the 2nd week of school because she was talking on her cell phone and she fell down some stairs.

anyway, yeah. it's surreal.

Friday 15 October 2004

yeah dude
i'm overwhelmed by God's goodness right now.
its amazing.

Tuesday 12 October 2004

mm... blisters are unpleasant, especially if they're at the tips of your fingers.

i have a question floating around in my head:

to what extent does one want to preserve the unity of a christian group say.. a fellowship. people may have a different way of doing things, different ways of leadership, even different doctrines, so how do you reconcile these differences and yet remained unified as one body of Christ?
please be concise and give Biblical references, thanks.
it's an honest question i've been struggling with since DC, even before that, thinking about unity and how we should be as brothers and sisters. I dunno, its an interesting quesiton and I can't help but personalize things. It's how i'm built. I wonder is there anything I can do to preserve the unity, you know? Anyway, looking forward to hearing answers. thanks.

look up HR 163 in the bill search field
everyone should read this.

::Edit::
I've mentioned this bill to some friends. They believe President Bush drafted this bill, or the Republican party. Contrary to popular belief, it was drafted by Representative Charles Rangle of New York (who's a democrat).

No hating on democrats or anything, but this issue is important and I believe should cross party lines.

"The fob remains the property of City CarShare. You are liable for the loss, destruction or misuse of the fob...You are not allowed to reproduce the fob. If you lose the fob, you must phone City CarShare as soon as possible."

According to the city car share manual, the fob is really important.
Hm... the fob.
