Be That Kind of Christian

oooo posting 2 days in a row. i'm on a roll. :P

Today I heard the most encouraging story.

The minister today, when he was pastoring out in Atlanta was gardening one day. His neighbor, a Polish Jew who was a retired professor invited him to her house, so he went. She showed him pictures of her family in Poland, her sister, mama and papa. It was 1939 and Nazi Germany had invaded Poland. They knew they were going to be chased after. But her mother had befriended a Christian who lived near them. Right after they heard about the invasion she knocked on their door and said "Bring the children to me." So that day her mother rounded her and her sister and gave them to their Christian friend. They never saw their parents again.

"I'm alive because of a Christian. Be that kind of Christian."

With Passion Week approaching and Easter in a week, this was a pretty convicting sermon illustration to say the least. It made me think... how was I to be that kind of Christian? The crucifixion is not a time of mourning, it's not about trying to explain who killed Jesus or to make meaning of the progression of Jesus' death, but to see God's hand in all of it. We aren't meant to see the gruesome details of his death, but WHY he died and his resurrection. The bloodiness is secondary. Love is primary. God witheld NOTHING from us. Jesus is our rescue from the evils we're born into, He is our Love, very savior to the core.

It makes me think, this should be motivation enough to be that kind of Christian.
